On Tuesday, 7th August, 2018, twelve excited students and four intrepid teacher/teacher aides from the Birdsville and Bedourie State Schools boarded the Rex plane for the commencement of the 2018 Combined Schools EKKA Trip.  By 5:30 pm we were all in Brisbane, ready and waiting to be collected by our bus driver. The following eight days were a whirlwind of activity.

We ventured as far north as Caloundra to participate in some beach activities and surfing lessons, and as far east as the Gold Coast where we spent a very enjoyable day at Seaworld, followed by an amazing night at the Outback Spectacular. Educational activities around Brisbane included visits to Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, the Lego Centre, St Helena Island, Queensland Museum , Parliament House, and of course The EKKA.  Social activities included Ice Skating, Ten Pin Bowling and Laserforce.

By Thursday 16th August, we were all exhausted and ready to return home.

Many thanks to the Diamantina Shire Council, Rex Regional Airlines and the P&C’s and communities of both schools for your financial and in kind support; and to Robertson Gardens for accommodating and feeding us so well. A big thanks also to Toni from Stonestreeets for organising everything so ably for us, and also to Pete for getting us to destinations and keeping us all in line!
