The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual assessment for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 across Australia.
NAPLAN provides valuable information to parents, carers, teachers and schools about how students are developing essential literacy and numeracy skills—skills that form the foundation for learning across all subject areas and for life beyond school.
The results help track individual student progress, as well as how the school is performing compared to national benchmarks.
Students are tested in 4 key areas:
- Reading
- Writing
- Conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation)
- Numeracy
NAPLAN is not a pass-or-fail test, but rather a snapshot of a student’s learning journey, helping identify strengths and areas for future growth.
