Bedourie is located on the edge of the Simpson Desert. It is 200 km north of the iconic town of Birdsville, 500 km south of Mt Isa and 1600km west of Brisbane. The town is the administration centre for the Diamantina Shire, and has a population of about 120.
The existing school building was opened in 1967. Prior to this opening, school lessons were held in the Shire Hall, which is now the Shire Office! The school presently caters for children from the Preparatory Year through to Year 6. Once children have completed their primary education, most of them move off to boarding school. Some, however, elect to study at home through the Distance Education mode.
