Bedourie State School was opened on 16 May 1960 with school lessons being held in the Shire Hall, which is now the Diamantina Shire Office.
The existing school building was opened in 1967. The school is 1 of 2 in the Diamantina Shire providing remote kindergarten to year 6 primary education. In recent years, the school has had a full layout and refurbishment to meet the continuing needs of its students.
